In the movie THE BIG LEBOWSKI 1996, a few minutes into the first reel, we get a hold shot Jeff Bridges writing a check using the date 9-11-1. This indicates that the Coen Brothers have knowingly allowed the CIA and Satanic Network to use their films to communicate messages en masse. Like the Matrix and other huge films, these movies send messages. dates indicate events. And so on. Each year, a major film is chosen to put out the message. Youtube freezing video stats

Apparently, a couple of my youtube uploads have done okay in views. But i notice that after a certain point, youtube freezes the video view and rating stats of those videos that draw viewers. They do this to keep the video DOWN in the assessment rating lists, which puts them out of reach of most video seekers.

This is the kind of insidious blocking attacks the network does to people to keep them down, invisible, and under the boot. This happens to many others, as well as myself.

Another fun thing we notice is watching our web site and blogs stats actually go backward. What was once say, 10,000 becomes 8400. This happens on any mainstream site of weight, even the inky-dinky podunk web servers.

According to Youtube analytics, almost 9000 people a day play the videos there. But if you track the individual video stats, they rarely change from low numbers, if ever.

Impact Seen As Roughly Comparable to Radiation-Related Deaths After Chernobyl; Infants Are Hardest Hit, With Continuing Research Showing Even Higher Possible Death Count.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – December 19, 2011 -- An estimated 14,000 excess deaths in the United States are linked to the radioactive fallout from the disaster at the Fukushima nuclear reactors in Japan, according to a major new article in the December 2011 edition of the International Journal of Health Services. This is the first peer-reviewed study published in a medical journal documenting the health hazards of Fukushima.

Authors Joseph Mangano and Janette Sherman note that their estimate of 14,000 excess U.S. deaths in the 14 weeks after the Fukushima meltdowns is comparable to the 16,500 excess deaths in the 17 weeks after the Chernobyl meltdown in 1986. The rise in reported deaths after Fukushima was largest among U.S. infants under age one. The 2010-2011 increase for infant deaths in the spring was 1.8 percent, compared to a decrease of 8.37 percent in the preceding 14 weeks.

The IJHS article will be published Tuesday and will be available online as of 11 a.m. EST at http://www.radiation.org.

Just six days after the disastrous meltdowns struck four reactors at Fukushima on March 11, scientists detected the plume of toxic fallout had arrived over American shores. Subsequent measurements by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) found levels of radiation in air, water, and milk hundreds of times above normal across the U.S. The highest detected levels of Iodine-131 in precipitation in the U.S. were as follows (normal is about 2 picocuries I-131 per liter of water): Boise, ID (390); Kansas City (200); Salt Lake City (190); Jacksonville, FL (150); Olympia, WA (125); and Boston, MA (92).

Epidemiologist Joseph Mangano, MPH MBA, said: “This study of Fukushima health hazards is the first to be published in a scientific journal. It raises concerns, and strongly suggests that health studies continue, to understand the true impact of Fukushima in Japan and around the world. Findings are important to the current debate of whether to build new reactors, and how long to keep aging ones in operation.”

Mangana is executive director, Radiation and Public Health Project, and the author of 27 peer-reviewed medical journal articles and letters.

Internist and toxicologist Janette Sherman, MD, said: “Based on our continuing research, the actual death count here may be as high as 18,000, with influenza and pneumonia, which were up five-fold in the period in question as a cause of death. Deaths are seen across all ages, but we continue to find that infants are hardest hit because their tissues are rapidly multiplying, they have undeveloped immune systems, and the doses of radioisotopes are proportionally greater than for adults."

Dr. Sherman is a contributing editor of "Chernobyl - Consequences of the Catastrophe for People and the Environment" published by the NY Academy of Sciences in 2009, and author of "Chemical Exposure and Disease and Life's Delicate Balance - Causes and Prevention of Breast Cancer."

The CDC issues weekly reports on numbers of deaths for 122 U.S. cities with a population over 100,000, or about 25-30 percent of the U.S. In the 14 weeks after Fukushima fallout arrived in the U.S. (March 20 to June 25), deaths reported to the CDC rose 4.46 percent from the same period in 2010, compared to just 2.34 percent in the 14 weeks prior. Estimated excess deaths during this period for the entire U.S. is about 14,000.

Winter by the book, is now here. But we all here agree it came much earlier this year – maybe early November. Every year for four years now, the winter starts earlier, is colder, and lasts longer.

Son Nathan just finished his school term with straight As (4.3 GPA) for his fifth year in a row and counting! He spends all his time studying physics, chemistry, and higher mathematics, when other boys at 16 are chasing girls and playing video games. And he does it under pretty abysmal living conditions. He shares a room with two brothers who aren't very tidy – and he is. So, he finds little nooks here and there in our home, spreads out his papers and text books, and gets busy with formulas and equations. Just for giggles, he takes any spare money to be had and buys second-hand MIT and CalTech physics books and proves out theorems and formulas. Which he does! In minutes! It's quite a sight to see. He's our real life Good Will Hunting, solving the problems of life with higher mathematics. We have tons of his papers that he churns out every day and then throws away; amazing solutions to math problems most folks never even know exist, save maybe those who live in that way...the higher mind. A mind that sees, connects, and understands the inner fabric of our connected existence. I believe one day, he will prove out the theorem of love/math, and open a door that needs to be opened and right now, on earth. Just saying...

Thanks to the endless kindness of a dear friend(s), we've somehow managed to get here; another year clicked on by. When so many are struggling in their own lives to make sense of this new and improved Greater Depression (like the old one, but with the illusion of prosperity no one believes in for a second, except on TV), many have come to this family with love and help. Sometimes that's what made for food that week. Son Matthew and I had hit upon the scheme of going on fasts whenever we ran out of food, so Nick and Nathan could have enough to eat. It worked! Last month, I fasted for 3 weeks out of four, and so did Matt. We then had enough to feed the others with good organic home cooking.

Yes, it's very true. You can go on long fasts and survive. If you do it right. And that's what counts. Drinks lots of juices, that's the main thing.

Food prices in Southern California are outrageous and mostly the food is dead, dead, dead. No life or nutrition in it. You have to scrounge around this or that place, hither and yon, to get decent living food that hasn't been irradiated or processed. Living food equals healthy body. Dead food, dead body – or at least very sick and heading towards cancerous conditions.

And what with Fukushima still gassing the planet with death particles...

A kind neighbor finally gave us a refrigerator last weekend that was going to some corporate charity. We haven't had a working fridge for two years now and it's nice to have food not spoil inside of two days again. Thanks Dave!

The closer you get to the sun, the more the world hates you for the love in your heart. It's the big battle of earth. Money is the main weapon of choice against anyone choosing to follow the path of love, no matter where it leads them and how hard life makes it for you to be on that path. This is definitely something I know about. I struggle with it daily.

It is worth it.

It is worth it do meet people daily and feel only a warmth in your heart toward them, even as they glare and beam hatred back at you. In that instant, you realize how far you've come and wish they could just let go of that hate and be free. People hang onto their hatred like its some kind of personal defiance and birthright. “This is who I am!” they roar as their hatred blooms to full. Closing all doors, shutting out the light and life, they ball up inside attacking anything that resembles a warm fire to melt their ice covered heart. Then the games start, their minds kicking in – animated with their hatred of life, goodness, truth, and love – and they seek out ways to destroy the light. And whoa to the man or woman that has that loving light in their eyes and energy field.

Oh well. Love and Learn.

It's freezing in the house right now, but my thoughts are with all the folks who come here to read today – as they are everyday. Are you doing okay out there? Is the furnace of love burning brightly in your heart? Are you learning from your mistakes and trying to do better, in spite of the opposition to you? Are you loving and being loved?

I hope so. Because in the end, it's all that matters and all that you can take with you.

When I am out and about, seeing tree spirits, and spirits of the air, water, and all life around us, I notice one thing over and over again. These elements don't pay very much attention to the humanity that mills about their existence, except for those with radiant hearts. It's true. Their eyes follow the bright heart wherever that heart moves, like an audience watching a tennis ball as it moves about in motion. They ignore everything else around them and focus solely on the brightest heart they see. Because for them, its a sun on earth, moving through their worlds – the worlds of air, water, plants, fire, you name it.

Think about it.

I guess its why they love children so very much. The hearts are clear and unencumbered with hate. But not all children. I've run into many “network” family children with dead black eyes, the souls coming into that body as dark as sin. Tree spirits and higher angelic forms actually shrink away from the black-eyed souls. Like a withering freeze come into their reality.

The scandal of the Alabama poor cut off from water

I understand and can relate to their plight. For four winters in a row, we, being abysmally poor, have been unable to afford the heat/electric bill that comes with heating this s-hole apartment we call our home. Lately, at night, it's been in the low 30s F., and so we turn burners on the stove to keep warm, which really doesn't work. You bundle up and stay close. Here in Los Angeles, the cost of centrally heating the place runs about $400 a month, about $350 more than we have. So, it's either eat or freeze. And the rates keep climbing every year. If it weren't food eating right and juicing, we'd constantly be sick. Last week, the stove went out, broke. And it usually takes the apartment manager 1 to 3 weeks to get it together to deal with such things. We have ice on the windows and snow out the door in the hills. We only drive where we absolutely have to, because gas prices around $4 a gallon here make doing anything else like surfing ot visiting people, out of the question.

The people in those counties who are being raped financially by rich county supervisors have my deepest sympathy. And for years now. BUt, you can survive. Wear layers of clothes and many blankets on the bed.

Mrs Lucas's monthly sewerage rate bills - the amount levied by the county to flush away waste and provide water for baths and showers - has quadrupled in the past 15 years. Blocked access to google accounts

I am unable to get into google from my own computer anymore, and have to use another's to do it. This makes sense, because they refused me three times in a row in getting an adsense account, here and on youtube. They put up ads on my vids and stuff, but no money comes to me, ever.

I'll try to come up with another blog site...maybe. This one is the latest one in a long line of blogs that have been blocked, one way or another.

There is a big parade of PSAs against smokers of late. You see, the problem is this: all three reactors at Fukushima in Japan have melted through their respective containment vessels and are now meters away from the water table. This was announced late summer by the Japanese government.

Did you hear about that or read it anywhere, save at this blog? Neither did I.

Did you know that radioactive particulate matter over North America and now, the world is at levels unheard of since the 1950s; since we used to light nukes off like fire crackers every day?

Did you know that every time it rains in Japan or California, your rain water exceeds regulatory radiation standards set in place 50 years ago by a factor of TEN?

Is that kind of TRUTH on the news? Are there any advertisements or PSAs about those little facts?

Oh no. As they did in the fifties, they are pre-blaming the coming sky-rocketing rates on cancer by pre-selling the evil-doer. The lowly cigarette smoker.

I know a great many people in the last twenty years, either directly or inderectly, that have cancer or died from it and NONE OF THEM ever smoked. Ever. Cancer rates in the USA now stand near 50 percent. Think about that number. And as bad as that is, it's going to get much worse.

Thanks to two factors NEVER MENTIONED by the media:

CHEMTRAILS AND FUKUSHIMA

All those radionuclides and chemtrail particulate matter mix together up there in the atmosphere, and then descend, into your lungs, eyes, hair, bronchial tubes, mouth, and throat and go in and stay in.

The South Sea Bubble

A company known under name “The South Sea Bubble” started its activity in 1711, when Earl of Oxford founded “The South Sea Company” financed by many traders of that time (the company` s full name was "Manager and Company of Traders of Great Britain for Support of Fishing in the South Seas and Other American Parts”). The company acquired almost 10 million pounds of the state debt with guaranteed annual rent of 6 % and monopoly for the whole trade with Latin America.

After a small time period there appeared rumours about the company` s incredible profits of the trade in Latin America, where English goods could be changed for gold and silver for “inexhaustive” fields of Peru and Mexico. Actually Spanish colony authorities admitted only one English ship per year and received one quarter of the whole profit and 5% of the turnover. The “South Sea” shares quietly existed on the stock exchange, the price moved only within two or three points per month.

In 1717 English king proposed to “re-privatize” the state debt. Two large financial agencies of the country, Bank of England and “The South Sea Company” presented their projects, and after heated parliamentary debates “the South Sea” was allowed to take one more debt commitment with the interest rate of 5% per year.

But in 1719 an event of great importance for the English colony took place in France. An outstanding person called John Law founded a company "Compagnie d'Occident" in Paris for trade and participation in colonization of the American state of Mississippi. An enormous wave of the company shares increased their prices from 466 francs on August 9 up to 1705 francs on December 2, 1719. The buyers were both the French and the foreigners. It was the reason for the British ambassador asking the government of His English Majesty to do something in order to stop the English capital runoff into “the Mississippi Bubble”. The bubble burst on December 2, 1719. After the crash followed it the capital returned from France to England in continuous search of new opportunities for investment.

This gave interesting opportunities to the main share-holders of British “The South Sea Company” offered to take the whole debt of the English state. On January 22, 1720 the House of Commons appointed a council for the proposal consideration. In spite of many warnings, on February 2 the decision to present a project to the Parliament was taken. Investors were excited with the outlook of the company` s further capitalization. In some days the price of the company` s shares, supported with inflow of funds from France rose up to 176 British pounds for a share. During the project further consideration there emerged new rumours about incredible profits which could be allegedly made, so the share price grew up to 317 British pounds. In the last Act on April 7, 1720, the wave of the profit acquired (i.e. sells) pushed the price back down to 307 British pounds already next day.

Even at such prices the company initiators and managers could take some profit of the capital growth, and the profit was just enormous according to the standards of that time and realized from a company that actually did not work.. This excited their appetites more and more. On April 12 there emerged new positive rumours, and new stock subscription was undertaken for 1 million pounds at the price of 300 pounds for a share. The share subscription exceeded the originally declared volume twice, and in several days the shares were bought and sold by 340 pounds. Then the company declared that dividends of 10% for new and old shares would be paid. After that new subscription for 1 million pounds at the price of 400 pounds was proposed. It was exceeded as well. The company was still almost out of work.

New bubbles

All this inspired many people for business activity, and in 1717—1720s a new phenomenon appeared in the stock market: more and more proposals of shares in new “blind securities”. These companies, like “Compagnie d'Occident” and “The South Sea Company”, sold nothing but plans, ideas and expectations. They were entirely out of work by the date of subscription and were managed by management beginners. The shares were bought with great enthusiasm and their price grew rapidly. The stock speculation was nothing more than rich people` s game: everyone and their brother, men and women here and there participated in it. Those companies were called ‘bubbles” thanks to their founders, who frequently sold their own shares, took the profit just in some days or weeks after a new issue, and left other investors alone with an out-of-work company and inflated prices of its securities.

On June, 1720 the King announced some of those companies “danger sources for all surrounding people”, and forbade trading their shares with a penalty for violation of the statement. The list of 104 forbidden companies included the following fancied activities:

improvement of soap making;

silver extraction out of lead;

buying and equipment of ships for pirates suppressing;

mercury conversion into a ductile refined metal.

In spite of all efforts of the government, there emerged more and more bubbles every day, and the speculation fever still aggravated. The first and the largest bubble of the action – “The South Sea Company” had its share price of 550 pounds on May 28, 1720 (Fig. 2). In June the impressive price level exceeded 700 pounds. In this period the price movements were extremely jerky, with enormous periodic movements. For only one day, June 3, the price fell down to 650 pounds before afternoon, to grow up to 750 pounds in the afternoon. Many large investors used high summer level in order to realize their profit which was then invested in something else, from land and goods to real estate and other shares. However, others continued buying the shares of “The South Sea Company”, physicist Isaac Newton was among the latter ones. During the early rises of the price he sold all his shares of “The South Sea Company”, with taking the profit of 7000 pounds. In the middle of the summer he bought them again, and the bargain cost him 20,000 pounds.

In early June “The South Sea” shares grew again, within a short magic period they were traded by 1,050 pounds for a share. Only very few were aware that the time for investors was finishing. Among those who knew it were the original founders of the company and the Board of Managers. They used the high summer price level in order to get rid of their own shares. In early August ominous facts started penetrating into masses, and slow and stable share price fall began.

On August 31 the company management announced that the annual dividend of 50% would be paid during the next twelve years. This would exhaust the company entirely, and such a piece of news did not stop the investors` increasing concern. On September 1 the shares continued falling and, when the price reached 725 pounds in two days, panic arose. In the rest of the month the shares reached minimum price level and, when on September 24 the company bank was announced to be bankrupt, the falling rate increased. In the last day of the month the shares could be bought by 150 pounds per share. Only for three months their price fell by 85%.

In anticipation of “The South Sea Company” death, banks and brokers found themselves in siege. Many exceeded the portfolio loan values, consisting of shares of “The South Sea Company”, and a wave of bankruptcies ran through the whole financial world. The company was finally wound up in 1855, and its shares converted into bonds. For 140 years of the company existence it never managed to trade in the South Seas to any attention deserving extent.

Carrier IQ on Apple Iphones!

Carrier IQ, the now infamous “rootkit” or “keylogger”, is not just for Android, Symbian, BlackBerry, and even webOS. In fact, up through and including iOS 5, Apple has included a copy of Carrier IQ on the iPhone. However, it does appears to be disabled along with diagnostics enabled on iOS 5; older versions may send back information in more cases. Because of that, if you want to disable Carrier IQ on your iOS 5 device, turning off “Diagnostics and Usage” in Settings appears to be enough.

I do realize the info below is a bit technical, but that’s the best way for me to share what I’ve figured out so far at this point. Please feel free to let me know if you discover something else here.

Carrier IQ is run from a number of different daemons, depending on the firmware version of the device: (You can view this on a jailbroken iPhone with iFile or extract it from a software update bundle if you want to check the files out yourself.)

iOS 3: /usr/bin/IQAgent

iOS 4 and 5: /usr/bin/awd_ice2 or /usr/bin/awd_ice3

The startup routine verifies that it is running on either a compatible device and exits if it is not. In addition, and most importantly: it appears it will only run if:

iOS 3: The DiagnosticsAllowed key is set to true in the com.apple.iqagent preferences — which it does not appear to be enabled on any of my devices. (If anyone knows what would cause this key to be set to true, please let me know.)

iOS 4: Unknown, probably like iOS 3.

iOS 5: Copies the ShouldSubmit value from lockdownd, under the domain com.apple.MobileDeviceCrashCopy. I believe this value is set by the “Submit Logs to Apple” option during the iOS 5 setup sequence, and so Carrier IQ logging is toggled with that setting.

There is also a check to ensure that your carrier supports the logging: it appears some carriers support it only over WiFi, others over 3G. However, despite those restrictions and never enabling the above checks, I do see Carrier IQ log files stored on all of the devices I tested:

iOS 3: /var/logs/IQAgent

iOS 4: /var/wireless/Library/Logs/IQAgent

iOS 5: /var/wireless/Library/Logs/awd

But is this version of Carrier IQ the same keylogger/rootkit as on Android? The answer appears to be: not quite. It does access a reasonable amount of information, however: (Be sure to note that I have not confirmed which, if any, of this data is sent remotely.)

As Carrier IQ claims in their video, communication with the remote server is all done via SSL. Importantly, it does not appear the daemon has any access or communication with the UI layer, where text entry is done. I am reasonably sure it has no access to typed text, web history, passwords, browsing history, or text messages, and as such is not sending any of this data remotely.

It appears that if you really care about this, Windows Phone 7 is the only mobile operating system without this installed. ;P However, I think the blame here really belongs with the US carriers who obviously demanded this: personally, I am completely fine with this data being sent off (especially if it helps AT&T’s network improve), but I would definitely prefer if it was more transparent — even if you can disable it with that toggle, Apple only explains that it “might contain location data”.

In fact, if law enforcement authorities suspect that you have done something wrong, they will use your cell phone microphone to listen to you even when you think your cell phone is turned off. In many areas of the country, when you get into your car automated license plate readers track you wherever you go, and in many major cities when you are walking on the streets a vast network of security cameras and "smart street lights" are constantly watching you and listening to whatever you say. The TSA is setting up "internal checkpoints" all over the nation, Homeland Security is encouraging all of us to report any "suspicious activity" that our neighbors are involved in and the federal government is rapidly developing "pre-crime" technology that will flag us as "potential terrorists" if we display any signs of nervousness. If you are flagged as a "potential terrorist", the U.S. military can arrest you and detain you for the rest of your life without ever having to charge you with anything. Yes, the United States of America is rapidly being turned into a "Big Brother" prison grid, and most Americans are happily going along with it.

The sad thing is that this used to be "the land of the free and the home of the brave".

So what in the world happened?

A fundamental shift in our culture has taken place. The American people have eagerly given up huge chunks of liberty and freedom in exchange for vague promises of increased security.

Our country is now run by total control freaks and paranoia has become standard operating procedure.

We were told that the terrorists hate our liberties and our freedoms, and that we needed to fight the terrorists so that we could keep our liberties and our freedoms.

But instead, the government keeps taking away all of our liberties and our freedoms.

How in the world does that make any sense?

As a country, we have moved so far in the direction of communist China, the USSR and Nazi Germany that it is almost impossible to believe.

Yes, turning the United States of America into a giant prison may make us all slightly safer, but what kind of life is this?

Where are the millions of Americans that still yearn to breathe free air?

America is supposed to be a land teeming with people thirsting for independence. For example, "Live Free or Die" is supposedly the official motto of the state of New Hampshire.

We don't have to live like this.

Yes, bad things are always going to happen. No amount of security is ever going to be able to keep us 100% safe.

The following are 30 signs that the United States of America is being turned into a giant prison....

#1 A new bill that is going through the U.S. Senate would allow the U.S. military to arrest American citizens and hold them indefinitely without trial. This new law was recently discussed in an article posted on the website of the New American....

In what may be a tale too bizarre to be believed by millions of Americans, the U.S. Senate appears ready to pass a bill that will designate the entire earth, including the United States and its territories, one all-encompassing “battlefield” in the global “war on terror” and authorize the detention of Americans suspected of terrorist ties indefinitely and without trial or even charges being filed that would necessitate a trial.

U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham is a big supporter of the bill, and he says that it would "basically say in law for the first time that the homeland is part of the battlefield".

According to the PPJ Gazette, the following are three things that this new law would do....

1) Explicitly authorize the federal government to indefinitely imprison without charge or trial American citizens and others picked up inside and outside the United States;

(2) Mandate military detention of some civilians who would otherwise be outside of military control, including civilians picked up within the United States itself; and

(3) Transfer to the Department of Defense core prosecutorial, investigative, law enforcement, penal, and custodial authority and responsibility now held by the Department of Justice.

#2 U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman is asking Google to install a "terrorist button" on all Blogger.com blogs so that readers can easily flag "terrorist content" for authorities.

#3 Most Americans have no idea how sophisticated the "Big Brother" prison grid has become. For example, in Washington D.C. the movements of every single car are tracked using automated license plate readers (ALPRs). The following comes from a recent Washington Post article....

More than 250 cameras in the District and its suburbs scan license plates in real time, helping police pinpoint stolen cars and fleeing killers. But the program quietly has expanded beyond what anyone had imagined even a few years ago.

With virtually no public debate, police agencies have begun storing the information from the cameras, building databases that document the travels of millions of vehicles.

Nowhere is that more prevalent than in the District, which has more than one plate-reader per square mile, the highest concentration in the nation. Police in the Washington suburbs have dozens of them as well, and local agencies plan to add many more in coming months, creating a comprehensive dragnet that will include all the approaches into the District.

#4 In some American schools, RFID chips are now being used to monitor the attendance and movements of children while they are at school. The following is how one article recently described a program that has just been instituted at a preschool in California....

Upon arriving in the morning, according to the Associated Press, each student at the CCC-George Miller preschool will don a jersey with a stitched in RFID chip. As the kids go about the business of learning, sensors in the school will record their movements, collecting attendance for both classes and meals. Officials from the school have claimed they're only recording information they're required to provide while receiving federal funds for their Headstart program.

#5 Increasingly, incidents of misbehavior at many U.S. schools are being treated as very serious crimes. For example, when a little girl kissed a little boy at one Florida elementary school recently, it was considered to be a "possible sex crime" and the police were called out.

#6 But what happened to one very young student in Stockton, California earlier this year was even worse....

Earlier this year, a Stockton student was handcuffed with zip ties on his hands and feet, forced to go to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation and was charged with battery on a police officer. That student was 5 years old.

#7 In the United States today, police are trained to respond to even the smallest crimes with extreme physical force. For example, one grandfather in Arizona was recently filmed laying unconscious in a pool of his own blood after police rammed his head into the flood inside a Wal-Mart on Black Friday night. It was thought that he was shoplifting, but it turns out that he says that he was just trying to tuck a video game away so other crazed shoppers would not grab it out of his hands.

#8 Did you know that the government actually sets up fake cell phone towers that can intercept your cell phone calls? The following is how a recent Wired article described these "stingrays"....

You make a call on your cellphone thinking the only thing standing between you and the recipient of your call is your carrier’s cellphone tower. In fact, that tower your phone is connecting to just might be a boobytrap set up by law enforcement to ensnare your phone signals and maybe even the content of your calls.

So-called stingrays are one of the new high-tech tools that authorities are using to track and identify you. The devices, about the size of a suitcase, spoof a legitimate cellphone tower in order to trick nearby cellphones and other wireless communication devices into connecting to the tower, as they would to a real cellphone tower.

The government maintains that the stingrays don’t violate Fourth Amendment rights, since Americans don’t have a legitimate expectation of privacy for data sent from their mobile phones and other wireless devices to a cell tower.

#9 U.S. border agents are allowed by law to search any laptop being brought into the United States without even needing any reason to do so.

#10 In the United States of America, everyone is a "potential terrorist". According to FBI Director Robert Mueller, "homegrown terrorists" represent as big a threat to American national security as al-Qaeda does.

#11 Most Americans are not that concerned about the Patriot Act, but that might change if they understood that the federal government has a "secret interpretation" of what the Patriot Act really means. U.S. Senator Ron Wyden says that the U.S. government interprets the Patriot Act much more "broadly" than the general public does....

"We’re getting to a gap between what the public thinks the law says and what the American government secretly thinks the law says."

#12 The FBI is now admittedly recording Internet talk radio programs all over the United States. The following comes from a recent article by Mark Weaver of WMAL.com....

If you call a radio talk show and get on the air, you might be recorded by the FBI.

The FBI has awarded a $524,927 contract to a Virginia company to record as much radio news and talk programming as it can find on the Internet.

The FBI says it is not playing big brother by policing the airwaves, but rather seeking access to what airs as potential evidence.

#13 The federal government has decided that what you and I share with one another on Facebook and on Twitter could be a threat to national security. According to a recent Associated Press article, the Department of Homeland Security will soon be "gleaning information from sites such as Twitter and Facebook for law enforcement purposes".

#14 What you say on your cell phone is never private. The truth is that that the FBI can demand to see your cell phone data whenever it wants. In addition, according to CNET News the FBI can remotely activate the microphone on your cell phone and listen to whatever you are saying....

The FBI appears to have begun using a novel form of electronic surveillance in criminal investigations: remotely activating a mobile phone's microphone and using it to eavesdrop on nearby conversations.

The technique is called a "roving bug," and was approved by top U.S. Department of Justice officials for use against members of a New York organized crime family who were wary of conventional surveillance techniques such as tailing a suspect or wiretapping him.

#15 In some areas of the country, law enforcement authorities are pulling data out of cell phones for no reason whatsoever. According to the ACLU, state police in Michigan are now using "extraction devices" to download data from the cell phones of motorists that they pull over. This is taking place even if the motorists that are pulled over are not accused of doing anything wrong.

The following is how a recent article on CNET News described the capabilities of these "extraction devices"....

The devices, sold by a company called Cellebrite, can download text messages, photos, video, and even GPS data from most brands of cell phones. The handheld machines have various interfaces to work with different models and can even bypass security passwords and access some information.

#16 The federal government has become so paranoid that they have been putting GPS tracking devices on the vehicles of thousands of people that have not even been charged with committing any crimes. The following is a short excerpt from a recent Wired magazine article about this issue....

The 25-year-old resident of San Jose, California, says he found the first one about three weeks ago on his Volvo SUV while visiting his mother in Modesto, about 80 miles northeast of San Jose. After contacting Wired and allowing a photographer to snap pictures of the device, it was swapped out and replaced with a second tracking device. A witness also reported seeing a strange man looking beneath the vehicle of the young man’s girlfriend while her car was parked at work, suggesting that a tracking device may have been retrieved from her car.

Then things got really weird when police showed up during a Wired interview with the man.

The young man, who asked to be identified only as Greg, is one among an increasing number of U.S. citizens who are finding themselves tracked with the high-tech devices.

The Justice Department has said that law enforcement agents employ GPS as a crime-fighting tool with “great frequency,” and GPS retailers have told Wired that they’ve sold thousands of the devices to the feds.

#17 New high-tech street lights that are being funded by the federal government and that are being installed all over the nation can also be used as surveillance cameras, can be used by the DHS to make "security announcements" and can even be used to record personal conversations. The following is from a recent article by Paul Joseph Watson for Infowars.com....

Federally-funded high-tech street lights now being installed in American cities are not only set to aid the DHS in making “security announcements” and acting as talking surveillance cameras, they are also capable of “recording conversations,” bringing the potential privacy threat posed by ‘Intellistreets’ to a whole new level.

#18 If you choose to protest in the streets of America today, there is a good chance that you will be brutalized. All over the United States law enforcement authorities have been spraying pepper spray directly into the faces of unarmed protesters in recent weeks.

#19 In many areas of the United States today, you will be arrested if you do not produce proper identification for the police. In the old days, "your papers please" was a phrase that was used to use to mock the tyranny of Nazi Germany. But now all of us are being required to be able to produce "our papers" for law enforcement authorities at any time. For example, a 21-year-old college student named Samantha Zucker was recently arrested and put in a New York City jail for 36 hours just because she could not produce any identification for police.

#20 According to blogger Alexander Higgins, students in kindergarten and the 1st grade in the state of New Jersey are now required by law to participate "in monthly anti-terrorism drills". The following is an excerpt from a letter that he recently received from the school where his child attends....

Each month a school must conduct one fire drill and one security drill which may be a lockdown, bomb threat, evacuation, active shooter, or shelter-in place drill. All schools are now required by law to implement this procedure.

So who in the world ever decided that it would be a good idea for 1st grade students to endure "lockdown" and "active shooter" drills?

Health department officials recently conducted a raid of Quail Hollow Farm, an organic community supported agriculture (CSA) farm in southern Nevada, during its special "farm to fork" picnic dinner put on for guests -- and the agent who arrived on the scene ordered that all the fresh, local produce and pasture-based meat that was intended for the meal be destroyed with bleach.

#23 It is an absolute disgrace that all of us (including grandmothers and young children) must either go through body scanners that reveal the intimate details of our naked bodies or endure "enhanced pat-downs" during which our genitals will be touched before we are allowed to get on an airplane.

#24 Invasive TSA security techniques are not just for airports anymore. Now, TSA "VIPR teams" are actively conducting random inspections at bus stations and on interstate highways all over the United States. For example, the following comes from a local news report down in Tennessee....

You're probably used to seeing TSA's signature blue uniforms at the airport, but now agents are hitting the interstates to fight terrorism with Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR).

"Where is a terrorist more apt to be found? Not these days on an airplane more likely on the interstate," said Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons.

Tuesday Tennessee was first to deploy VIPR simultaneously at five weigh stations and two bus stations across the state.

TSA "VIPR teams" now conduct approximately 8,000 "unannounced security screenings" a year at subway stations, bus terminals, ports and highway rest stops.

#25 More than a million hotel television sets all over America are now broadcasting propaganda messages from the Department of Homeland Security promoting the "See Something, Say Something" campaign. In essence, the federal government wants all of us to become "informants" and to start spying on one another constantly. The following comes from an article posted by USA Today....

Starting today, the welcome screens on 1.2 million hotel television sets in Marriott, Hilton, Sheraton, Holiday Inn and other hotels in the USA will show a short public service announcement from DHS. The 15-second spot encourages viewers to be vigilant and call law enforcement if they witness something suspicious during their travels.

#26 Certain "types" of American citizens are being labeled as potential threats in official U.S. government documents. An unclassified Department of Homeland Security report published a couple years ago entitled "Right-wing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment" claims that a belief in Bible prophecy "could motivate extremist individuals and groups to stockpile food, ammunition and weapons." The report goes on to state that such people are potentially dangerous.

#27 Back on February 20, 2009, the State of Missouri issued a report entitled "MIAC Strategic Report: The Modern Militia Movement". That report warned that the following types of people may be potential terrorists....

*anti-abortion activists

*those that are against illegal immigration

*those that consider "the New World Order" to be a threat

*those that have a negative view of the United Nations

#28 FBI is now instructing store owners to report many new forms of "suspicious activity" to them. According to the document, "suspicious activity" now includes the following....

*paying with cash

*missing a hand or fingers

*"strange odors"

*making "extreme religious statements"

*"radical theology"

*purchasing weatherproofed ammunition or match containers

*purchasing meals ready to eat

#29 Soon you may get labeled as a "potential terrorist" if you are just feeling a little nervous. A new "pre-crime" technology system that is currently being tested by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will soon be in use all over the nation. It is called "Future Attribute Screening Technology" (FAST), and it is very frightening. The following description of this new program comes from an article in the London Telegraph....

Using cameras and sensors the "pre-crime" system measures and tracks changes in a person's body movements, the pitch of their voice and the rhythm of their speech.

It also monitors breathing patterns, eye movements, blink rate and alterations in body heat, which are used to assess an individual's likelihood to commit a crime.

The Future Attribute Screening Technology (FAST) programme is already being tested on a group of government employees who volunteered to act as guinea pigs.

#30 The truth is that nobody puts more people into prison than America does. The United States has the highest incarceration rate in the world and the largest total prison population on the entire globe.

Put simply - and bluntly - Carrier IQ is a software package buried deep within Android by Samsung at the behest of Sprint. It has been in active use since the time of the Moment, if not before. The company that develops it, also known as Carrier IQ, bills it as "Mobile Service Intelligence". In their own words,

[T]he combination of the MSIP and IQ Insight lets you move seamlessly from broad trend data across many users, through comparative groups down to diagnostic data from individual devices. Now, not only can you identify trends, you have the power to drill down to specific instances, giving you the insight your specialists need to make a difference.

On its own, that description can vary from harmless, to worrying, depending on how you look at it. It's not until one drills deep down into the system and ferrets out every piece of the software that one truly knows what it contains. As some of you might remember, we took the first steps toward disabling the Carrier IQ software with the release of SyndicateROM and Xtreme Kernel 1.0. That, however, didn't even scratch the surface.

Carrier IQ's native libraries are plainly visible - libiq_client.so and libiq_service.so in /system/lib. During every boot, this service is launched - you can see it in Settings > Applications > Running Services as "IQAgent Service". These native libraries are called by non-native (Android application) libraries located in ext.jar (the client) and framework.jar (the service). Removal of these (rather obviously-named) libraries alone, be it the .so files or the libraries in framework or ext, will, obviously, break boot. So I had to dig deeper. To make a long story short, reference to the IQ Service and IQ Client were littered across the deepest portions of the framework, and some of the most basic functions of the Android system as we know it.

Carrier IQ as a platform is designed to collect "metrics" at any scale. What I found it to hook into is far beyond the scope of anything a carrier needs - or should want - to be collecting. Carrier IQ sits in the middle of, and "checks" the data of, SMS and MMS messages. It listens for and receives every battery change notifications. It hooks into every web page you view, and every XML file your device reads. It receives every press of the touch screen. It 'sees' what you type on the physical keyboard. It reads every number you press in the dialer. It can track which applications you use, what 'type' they are, how often, and for how long. It hooks into data sent and received.

I and my fellow users ask Samsung and Sprint - why do you want this information? Why do you need it? Why is the capability in place?

BUSTED! Secret app on millions of phones logs key taps

An Android app developer has published what he says is conclusive proof that millions of smartphones are secretly monitoring the key presses, geographic locations, and received messages of its users.

In a YouTube video posted on Monday, Trevor Eckhart showed how software from a Silicon Valley company known as Carrier IQ recorded in real time the keys he pressed into a stock EVO handset, which he had reset to factory settings just prior to the demonstration. Using a packet sniffer while his device was in airplane mode, he demonstrated how each numeric tap and every received text message is logged by the software.

Ironically, he says, the Carrier IQ software recorded the “hello world” dispatch even before it was displayed on his handset.

Eckhart then connected the device to a Wi-Fi network and pointed his browser at Google. Even though he denied the search giant's request that he share his physical location, the Carrier IQ software recorded it. The secret app then recorded the precise input of his search query – again, “hello world” – even though he typed it into a page that uses the SSL, or secure sockets layer, protocol to encrypt data sent between the device and the servers.

“We can see that Carrier IQ is querying these strings over my wireless network [with] no 3G connectivity and it is reading HTTPS,” the 25-year-old Eckhart says.

The video was posted four days after Carrier IQ withdrew legal threats against Eckhart for calling its software a “rootkit.” The Connecticut-based programmer said the characterization is accurate because the software is designed to obscure its presence by bypassing typical operating-system functions.

In an interview last week, Carrier IQ VP of Marketing Andrew Coward rejected claims the software posed a privacy threat because it never captured key presses.

“Our technology is not real time,” he said at the time. "It's not constantly reporting back. It's gathering information up and is usually transmitted in small doses.”

Coward went on to say that Carrier IQ was a diagnostic tool designed to give network carriers and device manufacturers detailed information about the causes of dropped calls and other performance issues.

Eckhart said he chose the HTC phone purely for demonstration purposes. Blackberrys, other Android-powered handsets, and smartphones from Nokia contain the same snooping software, he claims.

The 17-minute video concluded with questions, including: “Why does SMSNotify get called and show to be dispatching text messages to [Carrier IQ]?” and “Why is my browser data being read, especially HTTPS on my Wi-Fi?”

#1 According to U.S. Representative Betty Sutton, America has lost an average of 15 manufacturing facilities a day over the last 10 years.

#2 Sadly, it looks like this trend is picking up momentum. During 2010, an average of 23 manufacturing facilities a day were shut down in the United States.

#3 Since 2001, the U.S. has lost a total of more than 56,000 manufacturing facilities.

#4 According to the Economic Policy Institute, the U.S. economy loses approximately 9,000 jobs for every $1 billion of goods that are imported from overseas.

#5 The United States has had a negative trade balance every single year since 1976, and since that time the United States has run a total trade deficit of more than 7.5 trillion dollars with the rest of the world.

#6 Back in 1979, there were 19.5 million manufacturing jobs in the United States. Today, there are 11.6 million. That represents a decline of 40 percent during a time period when our overall population experienced tremendous growth.

#33 Jeffrey Immelt, the head of Barack Obama's highly touted "Jobs Council", has shipped tens of thousands of good jobs out of the United States.

#34 According to Professor Alan Blinder of Princeton University, 40 million more U.S. jobs could be sent offshore over the next two decades.

#35 One recent poll found that 41 percent of all Americans believe that "the American Dream has been lost".

Yes, it is fun to go out and fill up our shopping carts with "cheap products" from the other side of the world, but when we do that it destroys our jobs, our businesses and our communities.

Our addiction to cheap foreign products is incredibly self-destructive. Essentially what we are doing is that we are ripping apart pieces of our own home and throwing them into the fire in an attempt to keep it going. Eventually we will cannibalize our entire home.

So far, at least 16 people have jumped from high buildings at the factory so far this year, with 12 deaths. A further 20 people were stopped by the company before they could attempt to kill themselves.

The hysteria at Longhua, where between 300,000 and 400,000 employees eat, work and sleep, has grown to such a pitch that workers have twisted Foxconn’s Chinese name so that it now sounds like: “Run to your Death”.

If we stay on this current path, even more of our formerly great manufacturing cities will turn into post-industrial hellholes.

Once upon a time, I also bought the "free trade" propaganda hook, line and sinker. But then I opened up my mind and I learned the truth.

This nation is losing jobs, factories and wealth at a pace that is almost unbelievable.

Something desperately needs to be done.

The issue at Fukushima is still ongoing. Nuclear fission in the core slags is still ongoing with no effort to contain the situation. All they had to do was bury the thing in a sarcophogus of boran, lead, and concrete - ala Chernobyl - and the whole thing would have stopped then and there. But no. All they do is spray water compounds, which then drain into the Pacific ocean, which then goes into the world's food supply chain.

Officials insist that the situation is under control, but environmentalists and scientists are saying the fission event show the situation at the quake rocked, tsunami hit plant are anything but. They have also noted that chain reactions could be occurring in other of the plant’s hobbled reactors.

A fission event involves the splitting of atoms, which, in the case of certain uranium isotopes, can lead to an uncontrolled chain reaction and emission of radiation.

According to Bellona physicist and executive director, Nils Bøhmer, and Dr Komei Hosokawa, head of the Department of Environmental and Social Research at Japan’s Kyoto Seika University, Xenon-133 and Xenon 135 gas were detected in reactor No 2’s secondary containment.

The presence of these gasses indicated fresh nuclear fission taking place in the hot debris of the melted fuel rods at the bottom of the container, said Hosokawa and Bøhmer.

“This clear indication that a nuclear chain reaction is going on in one the reactors is a very bad sign. TEPCO had said that the situation would be stable within nine months after the accident,” said Bøhmer.

“Any on-going uncontrolled chain-reaction is not an indication of a stable rector, and we could face a much longer period of instability until the reactors are safe,” he said.

A TEPCO official has confirmed a so-called “partial re-criticality” incident in reactor No 2, said Hosokawa in the information he forwarded to Bellona. Hosokawa said the term “partial re-criticality was “a new vague word for [TEPCO’s} spin practice.”

Other radioactive gasses detected at the reactor, said Hosokawa, included Xenon-131m and Krypton-85, which are likely remnants of the chain reactions that occurred immediately after the earthquake and tsunami.

Will the fission event effect cold shutdown?

TEPCO had hoped to bring the wrecked reactors at Fukushima Daiichi to cold shutdown by the end of this year, meaning that the temperatures in their cores would be sustained at 100 degrees Celsius. Evidence of a new chain reaction may impact the shutdown date.

Japanese nuclear authorities, however, say the chain reactions will not affect the projected shut-own schedule. Currently the temperature at the hot zones of the reactors is been sustained at below 100 degrees Celsius by seawater constantly being pumped in.

Hosokawa, however, strongly disagreed, citing the apparent present condition of the nuclear fuel in reactor No 2, if not others.

“TEPCO so far claimed that the melted-down uranium had formed an oval shape with a cooled-down crust. Their roadmap for the "cold shutdown, if ever, is based on this condition,” said Hosokawa. “Now that they propose a quite

different view regarding the condition of nuclear fuel, the roadmap vision [for shutdown] cannot be intact.”

Independent reports on Fukushima unsettling

The news the fresh chain reaction follows a recent report in the Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics journal, arguing that radiation fallout after the Fukushima catastrophe could be underestimated by as much as 80 per cent.

The report claims the registered contamination with caesium-137 depicts only about 19 per cent of the radioactive debris, which actually fell on Japanese territory. The rest was dissolved in the Pacific. It is believed that only two per cent of cesium from Fukushima will reach foreign coasts.

A similar report by the Norwegian Institute for Air Research released last week posited that releases of caesium-137 from the plant after the initial disaster was underestimated by half, and that fallout has reached some 40 percent of Chernobyl.

TEPCO in July admitted four months after the fact that reactor Nos 1,2 and 3 had experienced full fuel melts in the first several hours after Fukushima Daiichi was hit by a massive 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami on March 11, knocking out its primary, back-up and battery cooling systems.

Bringing the chain reactions under control

TEPCO began spraying boric acid on reactor No 2, where the new chain reaction is taking place, at 2:48 a.m. Japan time to prevent accidental chain reactions, according to a statement sent to Bellona from Hosokawa.

Junichi Matsumoto, a general manager at TEPCO told reporters on Monday that, “Given the signs, it’s certain that fission is occurring,” Bloomberg news agency reported.

Matsumoto added that there has been no large-scale criticality and no increase in radiation – something corroborated by Hosokawa’s statements.

It is possible there are similar reactions occurring in reactor Nos 1 and No. 3 reactors, the other cores damaged at the station, Matsumoto told reporters.

“Melted fuel in the No. 2 reactor may have undergone a sustained process of nuclear fission or re-criticality,” Tetsuo Ito, the head of Kinki University’s Atomic Energy Research Institute, told Bloomberg.

“The nuclear fission should be containable by injecting boron into the reactor to absorb neutrons,” he said.

The Fukushima accident, the worst atomic disaster since Chernobyl in 1986, was responsible for the biggest discharge of radioactive material into the ocean in history, according to a study from a French nuclear safety institute.

TEPCO and NISA have declined to comment all three studies as of Wednesday.

Chain reactions possible in other reactors

“We are evaluating whether there are many reactions or not or whether its stopped,” Matsumoto said. The incident won’t affect its schedule of bringing the plant under control by the end of this year,’ Matsumoto told reporters..

Should fissioning have occurred the injection of boron will have stopped it, Tadashi Narabayashi, a former reactor safety researcher at Toshiba Corp. and now a nuclear engineering professor at Hokkaido University told The Deccan Herald news site.

What the reactors have weathered

Fukushima’s reactor Nos 1, 2 and 3, experienced hydrogen pressure explosions due to the fuel melts that occurred during the first days of the crisis. The explosions of the reactor buildings are credited with damaging reactor containment vessels.

Four of the plants six reactors sustained major damage, as well as possible damage to a spent nuclear fuel storage pool. It was several weeks before TEPCO was able to restore independent cooling to the reactor. Prior to that, the only resort was to inundate the reactors with sea water dropped from helicopters and fired from water cannons, leaving the plant to deal with thousands of tons of radioactive water and leaks.

The radioactive caesium that flowed into the sea from the plant was 30 times the amount estimated by TEPCO, according to the Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety, which is funded by the French government.

The oceanic study estimates 27,000 terabecquerels of radioactive cesium 137 leaked into the sea from the plant.

If Neil Armstrong gave the rock away, why isn't he being arrested for theft of government property in the first place?

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The elaborate mission to recover a moon rock led NASA agents to one of the most down-to-earth places: a Denny's restaurant in Riverside County.

But at the end of the sting operation, agents were left holding a speck of lunar dust smaller than a grain of rice and a 74-year-old suspect who was terrified by armed officials.

Five months after NASA investigators and local agents swooped into the restaurant and hailed their operation as a cautionary tale for anyone trying to sell national treasure, no charges have been filed, NASA isn't talking and the case appears stalled.

The target, Joann Davis, a grandmother who says she was trying to raise money for her sick son, asserts the lunar material was rightfully hers, having been given to her space-engineer husband by Neil Armstrong in the 1970s.

"It's a very upsetting thing," Davis told The Associated Press. "It's very detrimental, very humiliating, all of it a lie."

The strange case centers on a speck of authenticated moon rock encased in an acrylic-looking dome that appears to be a paperweight. For years, NASA has gone after anyone selling lunar material gathered on the Apollo missions because it is considered government property, so cannot be sold for profit.

Still, NASA has given hundreds of lunar samples to nations, states and high-profile individuals but only on the understanding they remain government property. NASA's inspector general works to arrest anyone trying to sell them.

The case was triggered by Davis herself, according to a search warrant affidavit written by Norman Conley, an agent for the inspector general.

She emailed a NASA contractor May 10 trying to find a buyer for the rock, as well as a nickel-sized piece of the heat shield that protected the Apollo 11 space capsule as it returned to earth from the first successful manned mission to the moon in 1969.

"I've been searching the internet for months attempting to find a buyer," Davis wrote. "If you have any thoughts as to how I can proceed with the sale of these two items, please call."

Davis told AP the items were among many of the space-related heirlooms her husband left her when he died in 1986. She said she had worked as a lexicographer and he had worked as an engineer for North American Rockwell, which contracted for NASA during the Apollo era.

Davis claims Armstrong gave the items to her husband, though the affidavit says the first man on the moon has previously told investigators he never gave or sold lunar material to anyone.

In follow-up phone conversations with a NASA agent, Davis acknowledged the rock was not sellable on the open market and fretted about an agent knocking on her door and taking the material, which she was willing to sell for "big money underground."

"She must know that this is a questionable transaction because she used the term `black market,'" Agent Conley states in the search warrant.

Curiously, though, Davis agreed to sell the sample to NASA for a stellar $1.7 million. She said she wanted to leave her three children an inheritance and take care of her sick son.

NASA investigators then arranged the sting, where Conley met with Davis and her current husband at the Denny's at Lake Elsinore in Riverside County.

Soon after settling into a booth, Davis said, she pulled out the moon sample and about half a dozen sheriff's deputies and NASA investigators rushed into the eatery.

When officers in flack vests took a hold of her, the 4-foot-11 woman said she was so scared she lost control of her bladder and was taken outside to a parking lot, where she was questioned and detained for about two hours.

"They grabbed me and pulled me out of the booth," Davis claimed. "I had very, very deep bruises on my left side."

Conley declined to comment and NASA Office of the Inspector General spokeswoman Renee Juhans said she could not talk about an ongoing investigation.

Davis was eventually allowed home, without the moon rock, and was never booked into a police station or charged.

The affidavit states authorities believed Davis was in possession of stolen government property but so far they have not publicly revealed any proof.

"This (is) abhorrent behavior by the federal government to steal something from a retiree that was given to her," said Davis's attorney, Peter Schlueter, who is planning legal action.

Joseph Gutheinz, a University of Phoenix instructor and former NASA investigator who has spent years tracking down missing moon rocks, said prosecuting Davis could prove tricky.

Gutheinz said he recently learned that NASA did not always take good care of lunar materials. In some instances, space suits were simply hosed off and any moon dust on them lost forever.

While bigger rocks, such as those given to various countries and museums were carefully inventoried and tracked, it now appears there are unknown numbers of much smaller pieces circulating in the public. Some of these may have been turned into paperweights and informally given away by NASA engineers.

"I have a real moral problem with what's happened here in California," Gutheinz said. "I've always taken the position that no one should own an Apollo-era moon rock. They belong to the people. But if we did such a poor job of safeguarding (lunar samples,) I cannot fault that person."

About 2,200 samples of lunar rocks, core samples, pebbles, sand and dust - weighing about 840 pounds - were brought to Earth by NASA's Apollo lunar landing missions from 1969 to 1972. A recent count showed 10 states and more than 90 countries could not account for their shares of the gray rocks.
